The recent, on-going Gamergate controversy has polarized participants across contemporary gaming culture into two rigid camps: those crying out for attention to ethics in games journalism, and those who believe such concerns are a smokescreen for the harassment of women. However, both positions share an unlikely common ground--they both presume to know what a gamer is.
