From trustworthy AI principles to deployment decisions and European AI regulation
AI systems can perform extremely well and still create problems for people, organizations, and society. This lecture introduces Trustworthy AI as a broader perspective that goes beyond model performance.
We will move from ethical principles to practical deployment decisions and then to the European regulatory context. The session introduces the European approach to Trustworthy AI, the seven requirements, the risk-based approach of the EU AI Act, and the relationship between the AI Act and other European legislation such as the Digital Services Act (DSA).
What does it mean to trust an AI system? We introduce the lawful, ethical, and robust perspective and the seven requirements of Trustworthy AI.
We use an interactive deployment game to explore what can happen when technical decisions meet people, organizations, and consequences.
We examine a real European enforcement case and use it to distinguish the Digital Services Act from the AI Act, before introducing the AI Act's risk-based approach.
We connect ethical trustworthiness, engineering, and legal compliance and finish with the main ideas to take away from the session.
