Catching sight of students' understanding: is it a matter of space? Lisbeth Lundahl & Åse Tieva, Umeå Universitet
After briefly introducing the design and some general findings from the project Spaces for learning, the major part of the seminar focuses on a 2-year study of active student learning in a large, well-equipped classroom. Here making students´ understanding visible to themselves and the teacher constituted a pedagogical cornerstone. Based on the findings of this study, the importance of the spatial and digital affordances for increasing students´ understanding are discussed.
